Rev. Ray's September 30, 2021 Devotion

"Then those who feared the LORD talked with each other, and the LORD listened and heard.” (Malachi 3:16)

There is an old poem that says, “To live above with saints we love, Oh that will be glory. To live below with saints we know, now that’s another story.” It is not hard to notice that covid19 is making some folks edgy and grouchy. Please do not let that happen to you. It has destroyed a lot, never let it take away your friends because of your differences.

For me, a favorite time of the worship service is the gathering of the people. I call it the time of making a joyful noise unto the Lord. Think about it. If you were planning a big family get together, wouldn't you want the family to enjoy seeing each other? Nothing ruins a meal any faster than a stubborn, out of sorts, family member. The meal can survive burnt rolls, but not bad attitudes and cold shoulders.

The family of God seems to love getting together. I pray that there always be plenty of laughter because people who will laugh together will also cry together when it is needed. May there always be plenty of friendly and wholesome conversation because the Lord is listening. He must be so happy to see His Family in Love with Him and one another.

Sure, there are sad and difficult times. Not every meal can be a celebration, but even the routine meals can be a festival of daily life.

There are several stories of Jesus in celebration with His friends at the table. There was always laughter and goodness. Something usually happened in each story: a sinner would find new life and joy just by being with Jesus.

What a feast we will have in Heaven. There will be no sorrow there, no burden, and no anger of any kind. The canticle says that He will lead us to the banqueting table, and His banner over us will be Love.

"Plenty of room in the family
Room for the young and the old
Plenty of happiness, plenty of love
Plenty of room in the fold."

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
