God created humankind in His image. –Genesis 1:27

I know a true servant of God who has a full length mirror in his office. The purpose is not what we might think. He always asks people who visit his office to look in the mirror before they talk about things. Of course the person sees his/herself, and they also read the words etched in the glass, “You are made beautiful in the image of God.” The response is amazing, and it creates an atmosphere for a meaningful conversation.

It is important to remember that God made all people beautiful in His sight. Too often that gets lost in life and we forget that we are all equally loved and valued by our Creator. It is wrong when society expects us to change into something that we are not if we are going to “fit in.” Give in to that temptation and you will soon be discouraged and unhappy.

Paul wrote that each star is different in its own beauty (1 Corinthian 15:41).

Does Mr. Skunk say to his wife, “Sweetheart, you smell nice?” Does Mr. Porcupine say to his children, “Come give your daddy a hug?” The poor man on the street may be ignored by others, but he is probably somebody’s king. He is certainly made in the image of God.

The great work of the church is not to change people into what we think they should be. When we try to do that we only frustrate the saving work of Christ. Jesus did not come to change us, but to enable us to be what we were intended to be in the first place: "Children of God." Through His death and resurrection He made it possible for us to reach that goal. John wrote that the day is coming when, “We shall be like Him.”

“Let all things their Creator bless, and worship Him in humbleness, O praise Him! Alleluia! Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son, and praise the Spirit, Three in One!”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
