Rev. Ray's October 28, 2021 Devotion

“... the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.” Romans 8:26-27

I cannot tell you how much this scripture has come to mean to me throughout the pandemic. There have been so many things that I knew to pray for, yet I had no idea what to pray. Sometimes there is nothing to say; just stand in the presence of God and let Him read our heart.

The Holy Spirit is happy to intercede for us. He groans on our behalf with words we cannot speak. He who knows what our heart is crying also knows the plan of God. Our strongest prayers just may be the ones that we called weak.

So many times, a pastor hears someone say, “I do not even know what to pray anymore.” Then just cry, groan, say nothing, but do it while believing that our blessed Savior cares. When you finish, say “Amen” because your wordless prayer has touched the heart of God.

“Does Jesus care when my heart is pained
Too deeply for mirth or song,
As the burdens press, and the cares distress,
And the way grows weary and long?
Oh, yes, He cares, I know He cares,
His heart is touched with my grief;
When the days are weary, the long nights dreary,
I know my Savior cares.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
