Tyler Fleming grew up as a member of First United Methodist Church in Elizabethton. Tyler was the first director of the FUMC Handbell Choir in the early 1970’s. Following graduation from East Tennessee State University, Tyler was director of bands in several schools in the East Tennessee region including Sevier County High School, Unicoi County High School and Dobyns- Bennett High School. Under his direction, the Dobyns-Bennett Marching Band represented the State of Tennessee in three Macy’s Thanksgiving Parades, Mardi Gras in New Orleans, the opening of EPCOT Center in Orlando, Florida, and the May Holiday Carnival in Toronto, Canada.Professionally, he has worked as a principal and school administrator during the last several years and in November of 2014 he was elected to serve the people of Elizabethton on the Elizabethton City School Board. Through the years, Tyler has served in music director positions of several area churches including: Centenary Methodist in Erwin, Stone Drive Methodist in Kingsport, First United Methodist in Elizabethton and First Baptist of ingsport.
Tyler has four children and four grandchildren. He is very proud that all of his children are musicians and share his love for music.
